Kilmarnock Creative Place Artist Residency
The Artist Residency was carried out for Kilmarnock's Creative Place Award in 2013, for which the aim was to bring a range of new activities and experiences right into the heart of the town centre. The residency was based at The Studio within an empty shop unit, and supported workshops and creative activity for all.
Kilmarnock was explored through the lens of the residency theme: 'A Sense of Place' through aspects of the town's heritage, social history and identity.
The wide variety of activities were carried out responding to the direction taken by participants, from making and creating, to discussing, reading and film viewing.
A number of outcomes came about, two of which were a series of silkscreen printed postcards reflecting aspects of the built environment and industrial heritage of Kilmarnock, and a collection of stories which are a mix of personal histories, urban myths and local folklore.
The postcards and stories were used as the basis of an artist walk led by Geraldine for the Creative Place Award event hosted by Kilmarnock at the end of the award year.
