Nothing About Us Without Us Is For Us Glasgow International Festival 2012
‘Nothing About Us Without Us Is For Us’ was a public art event lead by artists Matt Baker and t s Beall as part of Glasgow International Festival. It is a project grounded in locally rooted collective action, in the form of both action and mini-festival, and critically examines the role of art in the transformation of places.
For NAUWUIFU, Geraldine worked with Bead 'N' Blether, a peer support group for women in Govan, to create a set of signal flags to communicate messages across the River Clyde. Inspired by the documentary film 'You Play Your Part' made by filmmaker Kirsten MacLeod with some of the group members, the work explores and celebrates the role played by Govan women in politics in the 20th Century. The flags make up a series of iconic portraits of figures including Mary Barbour and Agnes McLean, the visual aesthetic referencing contemporary political poster campaigns and diy culture.
NAUWUIFU was shortlisted for a Creative Scotland award 2012.
